There is an interesting, prolific and haunting passage found in the book of Matthew about Noach and the corrupt
culture of his day.
It reads, "But as the days of Noach were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before
the flood, they were eating and drinking (surfeiting, gluttony and speaking falsehood), marrying and giving in marriage (adultry,
incest, idolatry), until the day that Noach entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away,
so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." Matthew 24:34-37
Although violence is not mentioned in this passage, violence, according to the Rabbis, was the final stage
of corruption. It was such violence that caused G-d to pronounce the destruction of all flesh from the earth.
Genesis 6:11-13 reads, "The earth also was corrupt before God; and the earth was filled with violence (Hamas).
So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. And God
said to Noach, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with Hamas through them; and behold, I will
destroy them with the earth" -- so Noach and your house build and enter the Ark.
It the Hebrew text of the above passages the word "violence" is "Hamas."
"Hamas" in Hebrew means, "to do violence, wrong, cruelty, injustice." It comes from the root word "Chamac" which
means, "do violence to, treat violently, do wrongly; of physical wrong, of ethical wrong, to be treated violently."
Like in the days of Noach we are seeing the fruit of earthly corruption, the rise of "Hamas." Not only as a terrorist
organization, but as a part of every day society.
Yet, we cannot overlook the rise of "Hamas" as a sign of the end of days, like in the days of Noach.
In light of history and because G-d is righteous, when the corruption of society reaches the point of unrestrained violence
G-d begins to separate the righteous from the wicked before he sends his judgments into the earth. Just as He called
Noach to build and enter into the Ark, so is He calling men to return and find shelter in Him today.
"Gather yourselves together ... before the decree is issued, or the day passes like chaff, before the day of the L-RD's
anger comes upon you! Seek the L-RD, all you meek of the earth, who have upheld his justice. Seek righteousness,
seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden in the day of the L-RD's anger. For Gaza shall
be forsaken, and Ashkelon desolate ..." Zephaniah 2:1-4
As the terrorist organization Hamas continues to gain political favor in the eyes of the Palestinian people, the
Arab world, the EU, and even the United States we will see violence escalate into apocalyptic proportions.
Fortunately, G-d's anger is not against the righteous, but against Hamas. Therefore, let us not fear
Hamas, but let us fear G-d! The rise of Hamas is the beginning of the end; the beginning of the end of the wicked
just as in the days of Noach.
Consider the last words of the book of Joel, "Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom (the nations) a desolate wilderness,
because of Hamas against the people of Judah, for they have shed innocent blood in their land. But Judah shall abide
forever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation. For I will acquit them of the guilt of bloodshed, whom I
had not acquitted; for the L-RD dwells in Zion." Joel 3:19-21
